Mission Statement
Founded in 2009, Accounting for International Development (AfID) is a multi-award-winning social enterprise that offers experienced finance professionals, accountants and auditors the opportunity to use their skills to make a genuine difference whilst gaining rewarding hands-on experience in the international development sector. AfID offers overseas volunteering opportunities with more than 500 charity partners across over 50 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Pro bono accountants provide between 2 weeks and 6 months of support as part of our ongoing strategy to build the financial management capacity and long-term sustainability of AfID's partners.
Description
Accounting for International Development's partners, a blend of international charities and grassroots community-based organisations such as street child centres, hospitals, micro-finance organisations, conservation projects, schools and women's empowerment programmes, do amazing work to tackle extreme poverty and inequality but have very little accounting support due to limited resources. To date, we have placed over 1,300 volunteer finance consultants with charities that best match their skills, qualities and interests. This equates to over 250,000 hours or £25 million of professional financial services.
