Lead Guitar provides rigorous music education through free and sustainable classical guitar programs in public schools where 80% or more of students are eligible for Free/Reduced Price Lunch - schools which have a correlating lack of access to critical resources and opportunities including Arts education.
Lead Guitar is a school music program with a 20 year track record of building permanent classical guitar programs in economically-challenged public schools. Each year, Lead Guitar teaches more than 3500 students to play and 60+ public school teachers to teach guitar. We have a history of success in tough schools and a consistent pattern of growth - with thriving programs in Phoenix and Tucson Arizona, Los Angeles California, Aspen and Denver Colorado, Chicago Illinois, and Enid Oklahoma.
Using music and an instrument to which young people relate very well, Lead Guitar students learn technique, music-reading, theory, performance skills and ensemble-playing through which they develop their self-discipline, self-esteem and ability to work as a team - attributes that help them realize success throughout their lives. Our most impactful accomplishment of 2019 was the creation and implementation of an Adaptive Guitar Program which empowers students with a wide variety of abilities to fully participate in guitar classes.
Lead Guitar's program mirrors the curricular integrity of the best band and orchestra programs but appeals to students that are not traditionally drawn to those programs. Lead Guitar provides all of the benefits of a high quality instrumental music education to thousands of students who would otherwise not receive them.
