Mission Statement

The Charlotte Buddhist Vihara is a monastic residence and meditation center located in Charlotte, NC. The Charlotte-born fully ordained Buddhist female monk (bhikkhuni), Ayya Sudhamma, brings her 21 years of experience living in traditional Theravada Buddhist monasteries. Community offerings include providing a safe place for Buddhist bhikkhunis to live, practice and teach, providing a sanctuary for individuals seeking spiritual calm and awakening, sharing of the Buddha's ancient wisdom and meditation techniques for mindfulness and personal growth, among other benefits and community services. People of all religions are welcome and we never seek to convert anyone. Meditation and mindfulness are available to all, and are used for a variety of stress-relief and spiritual enlightenment practices across the globe.

For 5 years, The Charlotte Buddhist Vihara and Meditation Center has provided a safe place for Buddhist nuns (bhikkhunis) to live, practice and teach the Buddha's wisdom, as well as meditation and mindfulness guidance for the local community. Our bhikkhunis participate in numerous community service, advocacy and outreach events throughout the year, as well as hosting our regular weekly and monthly meditation programs and teachings, with meditation retreats also provided quarterly.
