Mission Statement

The Community Art Center (CAC) is an arts and social service organization. Our mission is founded on the belief that each person will, when given a chance, achieve significant personal, social and cultural growth through the arts. The Art Center seeks to build collaborations with other cultural and social service organizations to maximize access to collective resources. The Art Center is committed to working in a culturally democratic environment to promote understanding and cooperation among people from a variety of cultural experiences.

Description

The Community Art Center has been a cornerstone institution for the residents of Cambridge's Area IV neighborhood for over 67 years. Our year-round programs for children and teens ages 5-19 combine arts instruction with a strong social service component. We serve children living in Cambridge's Newtowne Court / Washington Elms public housing developments and its surrounding Area IV neighborhood. The CAC offers two major arts program: School Age Child Care (SACC), which emphasizes visual, performing, media and computer arts for 52 children ages 5-12, and the Teen Media Program, (TMP) for 50 youths ages 11-19.
