QUICK OVERVIEW Become a Volunteer with Miracle Friends, a Virtual Phone Buddy program that matches individuals experiencing homelessness with volunteers from around the world to provide social support and companionship through weekly phone calls MISSION Miracle Messages is an award-winning nonprofit organization that rebuilds social support systems for our unhoused neighbors, primarily through family reunifications, a phone-based buddy system, and $500/month direct cash transfers. Miracle Messages mission is to end relational poverty on the streets, and in the process, inspire people to embrace their unhoused neighbors not as problems to be solved, but as people to be loved. IMPACT Research data shows the program has had a positive effect on volunteers and friends alike. Volunteers wanted to make a difference. Unhoused participants reported feeling a sense of connection and an enjoyable experience speaking with volunteers. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES The role of the volunteer is to offer general companionship and support. Miracle Friends is 100% virtual and remote. Volunteers can be based anywhere in the world Time commitment is 1-2 hours/week, which includes: weekly calls and/or texts with your unhoused friend Take a few minutes to log your calls in your volunteer dashboard REQUIREMENTS Complete 30-minute training orientation Attend weekly group trainings and support calls (optional) Minimum Age 18+ **Age Preference: Retired Seniors Volunteer Ages 55+ and older! Virtual buddy program - chats with an unhoused neighbor

Flexible Schedule | Virtual Opportunity

Miracle Friends is 100% virtual and remote. Volunteers can be based anywhere in the world. If selected to participate, a volunteer is matched with an unhoused individual at a participating partner site. All 1:1 communications between volunteers and unhoused friends take place via phone calls and texts using Google Voice or Dialpad (i.e., not your personal number). The rough time commitment is 30 minutes a week, flexible based on your schedule. This includes: weekly 1:1 calls and/or texts with your unhoused friend logging each call in your volunteer dashboard weekly 30 minute group check-ins (optional) initial training and a kickoff orientation The role of the volunteer is to offer general companionship and support, not to be a caseworker. Each volunteer is supported by our team and, when possible, each unhoused friend is supported by a caseworker.

Description

Our Miracle Friends program is a virtual buddy program - we match one volunteer to one unhoused neighbor for weekly phone call or text messages. As a volunteer you are supported by a team of mentors and a program administrator. The time commitment is 1-2 hours per week. This volunteer opportunity is transformational for the volunteer and the unhoused neighbor.

The Miracle Friend program through Miracle Messages is such an easy, fun, and rewarding volunteer opportunity! I have made a great friend and I always look forward to our weekly calls!
