ELLSWORTH FREE MEDICAL CLINIC

Description

Started in 1993, the Clinic is staffed entirely by volunteer medical providers and patients do not have to pay for their visits. The Clinic receives no federal or state funding, all costs are supported entirely by donations and grants. Patients are interviewed and examined and, if needed, they are referred to a local hospital for free, or low cost, testing or Xrays. If a prescription is indicated, the choice is made from a list of low cost options. If only an expensive medication is appropriate, the Clinic will work with the patient and the drug company to find the lowest cost solution. All patients are offered follow-up primary care. Lately, the Clinic has been able, with a generous donation, to offer free influenza shots to anyone in the community without means.
