Mission Statement
United Ostomy Associations of America (UOAA) promotes quality of life for people with ostomies and continent diversions through information, support, advocacy and collaboration. Our vision is for a society where people with ostomies or intestinal diversions are universally accepted and supported socially, economically, medically and psychologically.
Description
UOAA, founded in 2005, supports, empowers and advocates for people who have or will have ostomy and continent diversion surgery. We have a full array of free educational resources and materials available for ostomates, their caregivers and ostomy-related medical professionals. We maintain an informative website, have an information phone line, and connect people to over 300 supports groups across the country. We hold a biennial national conference with educational workshops for people of all ages. UOAA engages with those in the medical industry to ensure they are aware of our resources for their ostomy patients. We are recognized as a leader in all things ostomy related, and continue to create tools to help people advocate for their own high-quality health care. UOAA's goal is to erase the stigma surrounding ostomies, raising awareness and shedding a positive light on this life-saving surgery.
