Description
Community Counseling Solutions is responsible for administering The Corporation for National and Community Service's Foster Grandparent program for Central and Eastern Oregon. Volunteers 55+ provide a valuable service that addresses community needs in education. They act as tutors and mentors to children designated as "at-risk" by teachers. As mentors, they provide love, encouragement, and companionship on a one-to-one basis. As tutors, they serve children in school, day care, Head Start, and institutional settings. Foster Grandparents give 20 - 40 hours per week (minimum 260 hours annually - maximum of 40 hours per week, and no more than 8 hours per day) of tutoring assistance under the supervision of a Volunteer Station (i.e., a school district, school, Head Start Program, etc.). Our service focuses on those children with deficient academic skills, and the goal is to help youngsters improve academically. Foster Grandparents receive a small monthly stipend, 20 hours of training and orientation. We presently have working agreements with schools and/or school districts in Central and Eastern Oregon.
