Mission Statement
To give pregnant women a genuine choice to make an adoption plan and help would-be parents build families through adoption by removing the financial, logistical and social barriers that stand in the way.
Description
The Moonlight Foundation is a new non-profit corporation that was incorporated to address the fact that adoption of newborns in the US is a costly and complex process that is poorly understood by much of the general public. As a result, making an adoption plan is often not considered a viable option by women who become unexpectantly pregnant, or by prospective parents looking to create or grow a loving family.
We created The Moonlight Foundation with the fervent belief that all women are entitled to genuine choices when dealing with an unplanned pregnancy, and that building a family through adoption is a beautiful thing. Our work aims to remove the financial, logistical and social barriers that stand in the way of pregnant women and adoptive parents making an adoption plan. We strive to make adoption a genuine choice for mothers dealing with an unexpected pregnancy and for people looking to create or grow a family.
An increasing number of states are considering whether state-funded agencies should be allowed, for religious reasons, to turn down prospective parents. This disproportionately impacts non-Christian, gay and unmarried prospective parents. We believe that the barriers to adoption should be brought down for all, not built up.
