Mission Statement

Fifty Sandwiches is a 501(c)3 nonprofit project dedicated to presenting the public with a rare glimpse into the lives and experiences of America’s homeless.

Description

Originally funded with Kickstarter, Fifty Sandwiches has since been covered by publications throughout the nation with an exposure of over 26 million. With a goal to close the gap between public perception and reality, Fifty Sandwiches aims to foster the realization that there is more to homelessness than being homeless by creating an emotional bridge between readers and struggling strangers they walk past every day. For 3 and a half months I circumnavigated the country interviewing America's homeless, with intent of putting their stories and experiences into a book called Fifty Sandwiches.

Fifty Sandwiches the book, containing 50 interviews of homeless stories and experiences throughout the United States will be coming out this winter. Beyond the book, Fifty Sandwiches aims to ultimately create a movement where people are encouraged to go out and conduct their own interviews with America's homeless.

Fifty Sandwiches aims to provide a platform for volunteers who are interested in becoming an active part of their community with an opportunity to volunteer and help widen the perceptions of homelessness. As 'user' interviews continue to build, the website, Instagram, and Facebook will be a living, breathing document demonstrating the diversities and complexities of America's homeless.

This project hopes to give a collective face to an issue too often perceived as an inevitable rung in the social food chain. By gathering a collective range of perspectives and life stories, Fifty Sandwiches aims to further humanize the homeless.
