Mission Statement

The Carmel Mission Foundation was established to restore and preserve the historic buildings, grounds, and artifacts throughout the Carmel Mission, founded in 1771. The Foundation is a 501(c)3 Corporation independent from any religious organizations. The Carmel Mission is a U.S. National Historic Landmark, a California State Landmark, and is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places. Since 2008, the Foundation has awarded over $10 million to support the restoration and preservation needs throughout the Carmel Mission property.

Description

Over the past decade contributions have led to the successful structural renovations of the renowned Basilica, the rejuvenation of the Quadrangle Courtyard, the restoration of nine bells in the two Bell Towers, and the creation of the Serra Memorial Wall to commemorate restoration efforts.

And yet we still have a lot to do....

With over 11 historical structures, five museums, and the oldest house in California that need structural renovation and rehabilitation, and the restoration needs of incredible art and historical artifacts dating back to year 1568, we continue to need your support!

The current campaign is a multi-year, multi-million dollar project. The objective of the work being done is not just to remedy existing deficiencies, but to ensure the preservation of the buildings for future generations.
