The mission of our organization to help individuals with Parkinson's disease to slow the progression of the disease with a non-contact boxing/fitness program. In many cases, the motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease can be diminished with intense exercise. Our organization also has bi-annual fundraisers for scholarship programs for our fighters with financial challenges, community outreach, and equipment costs.
Rock Steady Boxing The Woodlands was founded August 2016 when 17 people with Parkinson's disease joined us as fighters to meet twice a week to engage in non-contact boxing classes. In May of 2018, our 501(c)3 - Boxing for Battle Inc was established. We have started an annual 5K in the Woodlands in April every year for community outreach and fundraising for our scholarships. We also provide educational services for individuals wanting to learn more about Rock Steady Boxing including speaking opportunities in the community such as health fairs. Currently, we have 50 fighters that attend classes 2-3 times per week. There are volunteer opportunities for corner people in our 2:15 class on Tuesday & Friday. We also have needs for volunteers especially on Friday when we teach 4 classes. Furthermore, we will need volunteers for our 5K on April 4, 2020.
