Mission Statement

Good Samaritan Hospice affirms life in the midst of illness and grief and, above all, honors what matters most to each person and family served.

Description

Hospice affirms life. While dying is seen as a natural part of life, hospice neither hastens nor postpones this natural process. The last stage of life can be a time for growing, sharing, cherishing, savoring and letting go. Patients often prefer the comfort and closeness of familiar people and surroundings. During this special time of life and after their loved one's death, family and friends are also in need of support. Through care, education, and sensitivity from our staff, patients and families are encouraged to attain a level of mental and spiritual preparation for death that is satisfactory for them. We believe that the community has a need and desire for information and education about hospice, dying, death and bereavement. Partnership with the community is critical to the success of our ministry. We are called to be faithful stewards of our resources, including time, personal gifts and money. Our name was chosen from the biblical story of the Good Samaritan who, when others passed by, stopped to help a man who had been beaten, robbed, and left by the roadside to die. We aspire to be Good Samaritans to our patients by alleviating as much suffering as possible, going the extra mile, and walking with them to the end of their life's journey with their hope, dignity and sense of importance intact.
