Mission Statement

The Mission of Moonstone is embedded in our motto: Education Through the Arts from the Cradle to the Grave. We believe that the arts are at the center of learning. They affect how one thinks, sees, interprets, describes, meets life and functions in society.

Description

The arts, creativity and imagination are essential aspects of living. Moonstone utilizes the educational philosophies of John Dewey, with an understanding of the significance of art in cognitive and affective development as expressed by Elliot Eisner, and the concepts of multiple intelligence developed by Howard Gardner. We operate the Moonstone Preschool and the Moonstone Arts Center. The preschool uses the arts as cognitive development with children from 18 months to five years of age. The Arts Center presents about 80 poetry readings a year in several locations. It also operates The Moonstone Press which publishes about 25 chapbooks a year.
