Mission Statement

The SPLC is dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of our society. Using litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy, the SPLC works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality.

Description

The Southern Poverty Law Center is based in Montgomery, AL with multiple satellite offices in many states. The goal of our group in New Orleans, LA is to gather as many volunteers as possible to participate in a fundraising program at the Superdome from now through January of 2020. Volunteers will help raise money to fight the U.S. Government regarding their "family separation" policy for immigrants, which has led to thousands of refugee children, some just babies, being kept in detention centers alone and representing themselves in immigration court.

Our volunteers will operate a turn-key concessions stand during football games, basketball games, concerts, and conferences. We are looking for volunteers who have the following qualities:

At least 16 years of age or older
Can commit to volunteering at least 2 days a month from now through January, mostly on a weekend
Is willing to attend 1-2 trainings at the Superdome
Has a positive personality and wants to help change the laws governing how we treat refugees
Lives in the immediate vicinity of New Orleans, LA.

All money raised from our efforts will go toward The Southern Poverty Law Center. Please contact our coordinator to find out more and get involved.
