Mission Statement

Rebel Dogs Detroit is a radical truly no-kill rescue based in the heart of Detroit, MI. Our mission is to create a street to home network for the abandoned and abused dogs of Detroit. We also focus on supporting pet retention for members of the Detroit community who wish to continue providing a loving home for their pet despite obstacles. We are committed to addressing the needs of our city’s dogs through a radical socioeconomic framework.

Description

Rebel Dogs creates a street to home network for the abandoned and abused dogs of the city, focusing on supporting pet retention for the community. Rebel Dogs has an open surrender policy, as well as being on call 24/7 for rescuing dogs. Having launched in 2018, Rebel Dogs has gotten over 175 adult dogs and over 100 puppies off the streets. Rebel Dogs works with rehabilitating, re-socializing, and providing medical care to these dogs before determining if they are placeable in forever homes. If they are not placeable, they stay within the rescue as permanent residents. The organization has been able to successfully placed over 315 dogs into their new forever homes. Additionally, Rebel Dogs has helped over 45 families retain and/or support their beloved family pets by providing vet care, food supplies, training, and support.

Having expanded so much in such a short time, Rebel Dogs will be transitioning from a strong network of foster homes to a shelter in Detroit. The building has been selected, but will need to be purchased and will need at least $300,000 in work to be operational and up-to-code. For this reason, Rebel Dogs is seeking volunteer efforts to help walk dogs, run events, fundraise, create promotional material, write grants, help with social media outreach, and help with daily administrative roles. The possibilities are endless. Whether you have an hour a month or 40 hours a week, we have the perfect way for you to get involved to start saving lives today!
