Mission Statement
Ready4ReadingBookClub's long term mission is a community where below poverty children's literacy needs are met. For effective long term community improvement, we will work to increase the general public awareness of illiteracy and health problems that affect below-poverty children.
Description
To date, we have given out over 60,000 books to below poverty children in the high desert. Illiteracy cost taxpayers 230 Billion a year. Our goal is to address the reading loss suffered by below-poverty children when they go on school breaks. These breaks can cost them 1 month and in some cases up to a year of literacy skills each year. We read at public schools with low reading scores, give out books at local events, teach classes at the Victorville Library and partner with local charities to help with their events. We also partner with the Adelanto, Apple Valley, Hesperia and Victor school district Summer lunch programs and give out free books, read to the children and do fun crafts. We also work with the United Way's Kid Pack program providing books in food backpacks prior to the children going on school break.
