Mission Statement

We aim to become the world’s most widely used solution for companies and individuals to eliminate food waste in their communities, making food rescue sustainable and universal, and food hunger a thing of the past. Working together, we can ensure that only hunger is left behind!

Description

Of the 7.3 billion people on the planet, an estimated 805 million-or one in nine-suffered from chronic hunger between 2012 and 2014, according to the United Nations.

Of the 318.9 million people in the United States, an estimated 49.1 million- or one in seven- were food insecure during 2014, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.

In the United States alone, 40 percent of food gets tossed every year-and that amounts to $162 billion in waste annually, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council. This can serve 58,064,516,129 meals using the national average amount spent on a meal, $2.79.

1,160 lbs of food, on average, is lost to the garbage pail each year by an American family of four.

Let's take action and help eliminate food waste and feed the hungry. Volunteer Food Rescuers help us transport food from our food donor partners to local homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and other human service agencies in our communities. Each food rescue event typically takes less than an hour. Food rescues may be completed by public transport, by personal vehicle, on foot and even by bicycle. With just an hour of your time, you can help reduce food waste and provide meals to those who need it most all around the country!
