Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide children facing adversity in New York City with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 mentoring relationships with adults that change their lives for the better, forever. We partner with families, volunteers, organizations and the community to inspire positive change in all.

Description

Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City began in 1904 as the first formalized mentoring program in the United States. Today, we serve over 3500 children--and their families--in all five boroughs. Every year, in addition to providing our own one-to-one youth mentoring services, we help hundreds of other nonprofit organizations implement new youth mentoring programs in every neighborhood.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters has been a big part of my life for 10 years. I have been matched with 4 little brothers, and all the matches changed my life in a very postive way. My first match is now a freshmen in college, it was so much fun him grow up. I believe this organization has such a large impact on young peoples lives, and as a mentor it hardly feels like a charity as it is so much fun. I look forward to all my match activities.
