The South Chicago Dance Theatre (SCDT) is a multicultural organization aiming to preserve the art of dance through quality performances and educational opportunities. The diverse repertoire of the company seamlessly fuses classical and contemporary dance styles as well as preserves historic dance work. With cultural diplomacy at the heart of the organization, the SCDT is committed to creating, performing and teaching dance on a regional, national and international platform.
Since its 2017 launch, the SCDT main company has received both national and international recognition. The company has been represented in Paris, France at Sons D’Hiver Jazz Festival, in Vienna, Austria at Impulstanz Dance Festival and recently launched a three-year collaboration with Seoul, South Korea’s Choomna Art Center. The company has also performed at the International Association of Blacks in Dance Conference in Los Angeles, California and has received regional bookings with presenters such as Whitewater, Wisconsin’s Young Auditorium. Locally, the SCDT presents work at theaters, alternative spaces, festivals and schools throughout the City of Chicago.
