Mission Statement

The local Extension office is the local doorway to our land grant universities for the public and Extension Volunteers. Each Extension office, or unit, in Virginia conducts programs in four areas: Agriculture and Natural Resources (includes commercial and community horticulture), Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, and Community Viability. An Extension Agent is assigned to work with each area. Master Gardener Volunteers work under the Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) Agent, Master Food Volunteers work under the Food Safety Agent, and Youth Development Volunteers work under the 4-H Agent.

Description

Volunteer involvement is one of the most important and unique aspects of Cooperative Extension. This is in keeping with Extension’s philosophy that active citizen participation in planning and implementation insures program success. Volunteers working jointly with faculty and staff are a valuable resource and an integral part of the education mission of VCE.
