Mission Statement
The StreetSquash mission is to provide consistent and reliable support to the children, families and schools in Western Harlem. By exposing these children to a variety of new experiences and by maintaining high standards, StreetSquash aims to help each child realize his or her academic and personal potential.
Description
Founded in September 1999, StreetSquash is an after-school youth enrichment program that combines academic tutoring with squash instruction, community service, and one-on-one mentoring. Working with 120 boys and girls, in grades 6-12 from West Harlem, New York for a seven-year period, the program's goals are: to improve academic performance; to develop an ethic of hard work and commitment; to boost self-confidence; to increase school attendance.
