Mission Statement
The He is Me Institute empowers Black men to obtain and retain careers in STEAM education. We provide teaching fellowships to college-aged Black men and support them in teaching STEAM subjects to middle school boys of color.
Description
Founded in 2018, the mission of He is Me Institute is to empower Black men to obtain and retain careers in STEAM education. We provide early teaching experiences and year-round empowerment to inspire Black men will to feel passionate, competent, and confident to have a career in education, while also empowering young boys of color to follow the path of teaching.
Our vision is to create a self-sustaining cycle of Black men teaching and leading our nation’s schools by hosting a teacher fellowship for Black men in college. Our Teaching Fellows will mentor boys of color through the development of STEAM-related business ventures.
The Teaching Fellows participate in workshops that provide foundational teaching skills, curriculum development, and historical knowledge about relationship between Black males and schooling. Upon graduation, our fellows join a network of support for encouragement to retain long, high-impact careers teaching and leading our nation's schools.
We work year-round to empower Black men and boys of color to continuously develop skills and knowledge in the STEAM and education disciplines.
