Right now, minority entrepreneurs are facing unique barriers to business success. At SCORE, we’re working to change that by removing those obstacles and providing minority-owned businesses with access to personalized support in our SCORE for All program: to meet business owners where they are and help them reach their business goals. As a mentor you will use your industry-based knowledge and expertise to help clients solve problems, increase business efficiency, and assist with developing long-term business plans. Mentors often have significant experience within their field, excellent communication skills, and the ability to dedicate a few hours a week. As a Subject Matter Expert Mentors (SME), you would be an adjunct expert called in to provide specialized support and advice to assist a SCORE mentor when their client needs a deeper dive on a specific topic. Topics where minority-owned businesses need support include (but are not limited to): government contracting, minority business enterprise certification, finance, accounting, human resources management, website design, development, and webmaster skills; social media and digital marketing skills; taxation and specialized finance skills; IT infrastructure and cloud computing understanding and advice. If you have a few hours per month and want to share your specialized expertise with a local small business owner, become a SCORE Mentor or Subject Matter Expert. Every SCORE chapter depends on the talent and time of volunteers to help entrepreneurs achieve their dreams of small business ownership. We’re currently looking for volunteers to work on specific projects.
