Mission Statement

RISD aims to promote sustainable development at the national and regional levels - primarily targeting vulnerable groups including women and the rural poor - through action research, networking, and grassroots mobilization.

Description

For over 20 years, RISD has worked towards the Sustainable Development goals. We have determined that land is the most important issue in Rwanda. It serves as the country's economic foundation and provides the livelihood for over 90% of Africa.

RISD's first major project was influencing the inclusiveness process in the formulation of Rwanda's 2004 Land Policy and the Organic Land Law of 2005. RISD then contributed to their monitoring of the implementation, making the organization an authority in the area. Since, RISD has concentrated on action research, policy advocacy, and ICT and technological advancement.

RISD has been uniquely successful by utilizing its ability to combine the scientific, social, and political approaches.
