Friends of the Glen Rock Arboretum, Inc. is committed to preserving, developing and the continued existence of the arboretum in Glen Rock, NJ, a designated wetland forest; and to the conservancy of its native plants and natural habitats for wildlife, The Arboretum in Glen Rock exists as a source of community pride, providing a nature environment, educational resource, passive recreation and a positive aesthetic experience. Friends of the Glen Rock Arboretum, Inc. is a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 volunteer organization, dedicated to the preservation, maintenance and development of the Arboretum.

Description

At the Thielke Arboretum we value our stewards - volunteers of all ages and backgrounds . The work they do matters! An arboretum cannot exist without environmental stewardship. We rely on scientific research and proven techniques to conserve cherished plantings and restore native habitats.
Stewardship:
Practice sustainable gardening, learn planting methods and design, perform proper pruning and tree care, build and maintain trails, learn plant plant identification techniques, perform native habitat restoration, specialized projects and more.

Docents:
Imagine seeing a swallowtail butterfly for the first time, or learning how pond life is dependent upon creatures too small to see. Volunteer docents introduce school age children to sights, sounds and concepts in nature through "outdoor classrooms" and experiential learning We have programs for all class levels as well as scouting groups.

Alternatively docents guide tours for visitors, both children and adults. You do not need a background in teaching or biology, just a love of nature and a willingness to learn!

Ambassadors:
Our beautiful Environmental Education Center is open to the public at selected times. Curators welcome visitors, answer questions and tend to the Education Center.
