Help spread the word about Brilliant Detroit! Brilliant Cities is a neighborhood-powered model ensuring children 0-8 are school-ready, healthy, and supported. We do this by transforming houses into community hubs where children and families have what they need to thrive. We currently operate 16 hubs across 24 neighborhoods in Detroit and 1 in Pontiac, where families with young children come for programs in education, health, and family support, and to build community with one another to receive love, safety, growth, and fellowship. We’re currently looking for community members to help share the amazing work happening at Brilliant Detroit by hanging and passing out flyers in the neighborhood. Your support helps connect families to free programs, resources, and events that strengthen our community. What Community Outreach Can Look Like: Spending time with Brilliant Detroit staff printing and preparing flyers Posting flyers at local businesses, schools, churches, and community centers Distribute promotional materials about resources provided by Brilliant Detroit throughout the neighborhood Inviting friends, neighbors, and others to get involved We would love to have you join us in supporting and sharing the mission of Brilliant Detroit! Once you submit your interest in this volunteer role, you’ll receive a confirmation email outlining the next steps in our onboarding process, including confirming your availability to schedule an upcoming outreach project.

Voted Best Day Camp in the 2024 Detroit Community’s Choice Awards-join Brilliant Detroit for a summer of fun and learning! Brilliant Summer Camp offers engaging sessions designed to support our young campers with literacy development, health and wellness activities, and exciting enrichment experiences they’ll love! We’re currently seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help support the day-to-day operations of camp-including setup, activity facilitation, and cleanup of materials and supplies. Our summer camp begins the week of July 7th and concludes the week of August 15th, Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. -4 p.m. *Once you express interest in supporting our summer camp, we’ll email you an interest form where you can indicate your preferred dates, locations, and areas of support. You’ll also receive details about our volunteer onboarding process.

Juneteenth marks one of our country’s independence day celebrations. Although it has long been celebrated in the African American community, this monumental event remains largely unknown to most Americans. The historical legacy of Juneteenth shows the value of never giving up hope in uncertain times. A space where the community spirit of hope lives on. A space for families to gather, learn together and be educated, and share stories of diversity, equity and inclusion. Volunteers are needed to help provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for community participants, set-up program stations, manage activities, distribute food and more. Brilliant Detroit offers a range of programming for children and caregivers throughout the year, such as health nights, literacy nights, movie and game nights, community dinners and so much more! These events, while focused on different themes, share a common goal of fostering community connection and fellowship. Below, you will find an overview of our recurring volunteer opportunities to support our ongoing programs. Current volunteer opportunities: - Brilliant Morningside After-School Programming and General Staff Support 3/31/25-6/30/25, Wed-Fri, 3-6:30 p.m. Brilliant Detroit's Morningside location is looking for volunteers to support after-school programming. Volunteers will help support child-enrichment activities such as read-alouds with activities, arts/crafts, books and conversation, etc. Volunteers are also needed for program sign-up and registration as well as snack prep and set-up. - Brilliant Littlefield Recurring Spring Program Support 3/31/25-6/30/25, Mon-Thurs, 3:30-6 p.m. Brilliant Detroit's Littlefield location is looking for volunteers to support after-school programming. Placement will depend on the volunteer's program interests or availability. Available programs: Stories & STEM, Art for the Heart, Nature Explorer, Early Explorers, and Power Up Fitness. - Brilliant Brightmoor Recurring Spring Program Support 4/10/25-6/26/25, Tuesdays at 6 p.m. and/or Thursdays at 5 p.m. Brilliant Detroit's Brightmoor location is looking for volunteers to support two programs: Family at the Heart of Everything on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. and Reading is Fundamental on Thursdays at 5 p.m. These programs will focus on children's literacy and family development and enrichment.

These dinners are designed to strengthen community ties in a warm, inclusive environment. We are looking for volunteers to help set up the dinner area, welcome community members to our Brilliant Pontiac home, plate and serve food, manage fun and interactive child enrichment activities, and assist with cleanup by returning event materials to their original spaces. - Summer camp support: July 7th-August 14th, Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Voted Best Day Camp in the 2024 Detroit Community’s Choice Awards-join Brilliant Pontiac for a summer of fun and learning at our Sci-Fi Mystery-themed day camp! Volunteers are needed to assist with literacy activities and help facilitate enrichment programs such as arts & crafts, creative expression, fitness, and STEM-both indoors and outdoors. - Clothing closet organization: Flexible timing; please inquire Brilliant Pontiac hosts a community clothing closet that provides free clothing to those in need, helping to boost self-esteem by allowing individuals to feel confident and included with appropriate attire. This is especially crucial for families facing clothing insecurity, as it can positively impact academic performance and social interactions. Volunteers are needed to help assess and organize clothing donations; some heavy lifting is required for this role. - Homework help: Fall 2025; Monday-Thursday, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Starting this fall, Brilliant Pontiac will offer after-school homework help sessions for students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. These sessions aim to support young learners with their schoolwork, encourage curiosity, and promote positive study habits. We are looking for volunteers to mentor students, assist with homework questions, model patience and a love for learning, and help tidy and organize materials at the end of each session. This is a great opportunity for older students to step into a meaningful mentoring role!
