Description

Autism Society Habilitation Association (ASHA) was established to assist Bangladeshi American children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)to develop independent living skills, and help new immigrant parents to overcome stigma over disability within the Bangladeshi immigrant community.

The Bangladeshi community in New York is diverse in culture, language, and traditions, and there is no "one size fits all" approach to providing disability related services. As a new organization, ASHA has been successful in establishing itself as a disability services organization in the community, and it is the only South Asian organization working with children and youth with ASD. Its board of directors and founder have a long history of working with Bangladeshi parents and community leaders. Our mission has been recognized by partner organizations, such as Autism Speaks, and our work and approach has taken us to participate in the United Nations Seminar on Autism.
