Mission Statement

Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA) empowers a community of exceptional young leaders from under-resourced backgrounds by supporting their higher education and professional success in order to create a more inclusive and equitable country.

Description

LEDA was founded in 2003 by Gary Simons, founder of New York City’s highly regarded Prep for Prep program. It is now the preeminent national nonprofit organization dedicated to diversifying the national leadership pipeline by helping high-achieving students from under-resourced backgrounds gain admission to our nation’s most selective colleges, supporting their success at these institutions, and providing resources and advising for career exploration.

LEDA runs three programs:

  • The LEDA Scholars Program consists of four components that provide individualized support for LEDA Scholars from their junior year in high school through college graduation. These components are: recruitment and admission, the Aspects of Leadership Summer Institute, college guidance, and college success.
  • During and after college, LEDA Scholars and their peers are invited to apply for the LEDA Career Network, which provides high-achieving, low-income students at selective colleges with career exploration, professional development, and related resources to support them as they navigate their career pathways.
  • In 2018, LEDA also launched a new initiative to engage undergraduate and alumni Scholars, the LEDA Policy Project, which seeks to train and position young leaders from underrepresented backgrounds to lend their voices to federal policy discussions pertaining to postsecondary education.
