The mission of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is very simple. It is to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person support and service to anyone who is in need. It’s the helping hand that puts a meal on a family’s table and makes sure the lights and heat stay on. It’s the generosity that sees to it that men, women and children are clothed, that they have a bed - or needed furniture - or just a place to sleep. It’s reaching out to those without hope and giving them the gift of a better tomorrow. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic lay organization united in our vision of offering individual help to those in need and in addressing the causes of charity and justice. We see the face of God in every human -- of every condition -- who can benefit from our aid. Serving with no distinction to religious affiliation and offering individual help to every ethnic and cultural group.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul has become an international organization. It renders assistance to those in need in 149 counties and has more than 900,000 members worldwide! More than 4,055 active Conferences-with 62,847 active members - operate in the United States alone. The Diocese of Tucson has 37 Conferences active throughout Southern Arizona and 867 members.
In 2012 in Southern Arizona, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul contributed $7,333,000 to help those suffering or in need. Our members made 35,228 home visits and assisted 86,732 people - traveling over 140,968 miles to give person-to-person assistance. Yet, there are still many who need help and we will continue to reach out throughout the area to provide assistance wherever and whenever possible.
