Mission Statement

The Arc works in local communities across Iowa and believes that all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have strengths, abilities and inherent value; are equal before the law; and must be treated with dignity and respect. The Arc represents, supports and acts on behalf of individuals and their families regardless of level of ability or membership in The Arc. The Arc believes in self-determination by empowering people with the supports needed to make informed decisions and choices.

The Arc is seeking caring volunteers across the State of Iowa to assist with helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities live their best life. We do this through providing direct care, conducting community activities, providing training for caregivers and self advocates, hosting fund raisers, operating vending machines, advocating at state and local levels and following these basic principles:

  • People First
  • Democracy
  • Visionary Leadership
  • Community Participation
  • Diversity
  • Integrity & Excellence
