Mission Statement

The Mission of The Arc of Greater Cleveland is to empower persons affected by intellectual and developmental disabilities through advocacy, education and the promotion of activities that improve quality of life.

Description

The Arc started as a grassroots organization by a group of parents who wanted to advocate for their children with disabilities. It is now the largest national organization that serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Across the country there are approximately 700 chapters, that are unique in what services they provide. The Arc of Greater Cleveland has remained primarily volunteer driven and whose primary focus remains on advocacy. In addition to us advocating for others we proudly support a group for self advocates called People First.

Because of the disproportionate amount of chronic illness within this population we are also interested in health and wellness. Healthy Lifestyles is a program that we recently offered that taught individuals about healthy eating, meal prep and exercise.

Lastly, a fun program we offer is called Wings for All. This is a program that allows our individuals to experience the world of air travel without ever leaving the ground!
