Raise a Child of the Carolinas (the RACC) is a 501 c3 non-profit organization focused on exposing youth to educational opportunities that are underrepresented in their communities, thus inspiring them to reach their full potential. The RACC organization was started in 2018 and provides local children with tutoring, seasonal camps and family programs and offers English as a Second Language programs as well. Throughout the pandemic, the RACC has also partnered with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to offer in-person education solutions to supplement the remote learning process. Volunteer needed @ After School Program to supervise and ensure the safety of children during dinner time grades K-8. Scheduled Weekly Hours: Monday to Friday 3:00-4:30 pm Hours per Day: 1.5 hour(s) per day Responsibilities Include: --Escorting students from day school to the afterschool program --Reports consistently for work as scheduled --Performs other duties as assigned --Assists in cleaning up spills and wiping down tables --Assists students opening milk/juice cartons and food packages --Enforces all school rules of student behavior --Locates students sought by building administration and escorts students to office as needed --Monitors lunchroom to deter behavioral problems, etc. --Monitors student(s), ensuring their compliance to district/building policies, rules and regulations --Supervises student(s) and keeps students out of unauthorized areas --Works with administration to develop and enforce security policies and procedures Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: --Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing --Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from many diverse backgrounds and professions including supervisors, administrators, coworkers, staff, and students --Ability to follow oral and written instructions --Ability to maintain confidentiality --Ability to manage simultaneous demands and set clear priorities --Ability to work independently without direct supervision --Commitment to the education of students as a primary responsibility --Communicates effectively with students and adults in a wide variety of settings --Computer proficiency --Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a team setting --Demonstrates citizenship, compassion, courage, discernment, excellence, honesty, hope, integrity, patience, perseverance, reliability, respect, responsibility, and trustworthiness --Demonstrates effective organizational and time management skills --Energetic, creative, innovative, flexible --Excellent cooperative, collaborative, and problem-solving skills --Promotes a positive climate, culture, and community --Student-centered and relationship-focused --Understanding of data privacy laws and their implications for the educational community Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a staff member typically encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The Program Committee volunteer is responsible for the creation, support and implementation of educational programs for the kindergarten to 2nd grade students who participate in our after school program. This is an ideal role for: A current or former teacher who enjoys developing fun and innovative lesson plans to engage students OR College students or recent grads from Education degree programs who are looking for experience OR Anyone who is passionate about helping all children recognize and benefit from the value of quality education Time commitment is 1-2 hours weekly. Major Accountabilities: Oversee development of fun and interactive programs centered around one of our core focus areas of S.T.R.E.A.M, Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy, Health & Fitness, and College and Career Readiness. Monitor and assess existing programs Initiate and guide program evaluations Facilitate discussions about program priorities for the agency Ideal Background: At a minimum attending high school Previous experience, not necessary. Teaching, mentoring or coaching experience preferred.
