Mission Statement

Family Spirals is being launched as a capacity-building nonprofit and eventual global think tank addressing family identity, cohesion, trauma and joy. Our mission is to help individuals, families, and communities understand and address their family dynamics, and to share information that supports members of families and households in being safe and sound and in leading good lives. We fulfill our mission through the development of culturally-competent programs and services: public education, online resources, research, program development, and capacity-building support to providers and communities.

Description

Family Spirals(r) addresses family dynamics holistically. In order to do so, we will initially focus on family relationships and problems that other nonprofits and researchers tend to overlook. We've developed four programmatic centers to address these problems - focusing on siblings, in-laws, dynamics with pets, and the impact of technology on family.

Our initial work focuses on sibling relationships and conflicts among adults. We will be the first nonprofit to comprehensively address and explore sibling relationships. We will pilot closed, facilitated discussion groups for adults:
  1. For those who felt targeted by a sibling in the past or dismissed in the present.
  2. For those who were aggressive towards a sibling in the past and/or dismissive in the present, and who wish to change set patterns.
  3. A workshop on enhancing sibling relationships, based on findings from the above interventions.
Special attention will address family gatherings, caring for a dying parent, and family businesses and estates. We incorporate the arts into all our work. We will seek to partner with other organizations in piloting and evaluating programs.

Currently, Family Spirals(r) is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization.
[Note: Another division addresses families with animals. As such, all meals associated with Family Spirals will be plant-based.]
