Description

When children are place in foster care it is without warning and no preparation time for foster placement. The children generally arrive with only the clothes they are wearing. Our placement bag program will provide 3 days supply of clothes, toiletries and essential items needed based on the age of the child. Typically foster children will relocate between 4-7 times before they age out of the system or find permanent placements. It is a general practice that the children's items are placed in a trash bag. Sadly, this is sending the children a message that they are worth trash. Our duffle bag will substitute for a suitcase and hopefully provide the child with some dignity when they relocate.

Foster children also receive a standard back pack from the state for school. It is stereotyped and labeled as a "welfare bag". Our back pack program will provide a brand new mainstream backpack filled with essential items to help them start the year of with necessities. Hopefully bridging the gap within their peer group.

And lastly, every year through individual donations and corporate sponsors we provide a holiday gift to area foster children. For many of the children this will be the first gift they have ever received.

Our programs are designed to help foster children in a very difficult time and we hope to send them a message that someone cares and is supporting them. Our goal is to try to provide them with some dignity and help give them necessary tools to be successful.
