Mission Statement

Our mission is to EMPOWER black youth in under-served communities through civic leadership and engagement, giving them a comprehensive set of TOOLS needed to SUCCEED in life and become an active SOCIAL CATALYST in their communities.

Description

Black Swan Academy operates an innovative Civic Leadership and Engagement program (out-of-school-time, year-round) at Southeast, DC schools. Staff and trained volunteers use applied and service-learning techniques to help participants: build pride, purpose, and power.

  • Pride - restore pride in self & ethnicity
  • Purpose - identify purpose through community service
  • Power - recognize innate power to impact positive change
