Mission Statement

The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world. Our core values: Hope: We give hope through the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Service: We reach out to support others without discrimination. Dignity: We respect and value each other, recognizing everyone’s worth. Stewardship: We responsibly manage the resources entrusted to us. The Salvation Army does not discriminate in the delivery of our community and social services. Anyone who comes to The Salvation Army will receive assistance based solely on their need and our capacity to help, regardless of race, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, age or religion. We uphold the dignity of all people, believing that all are equal in the eyes of God, and firmly oppose the mistreatment of any person.

Description

The Mount Arrowmith Community Corps (church) was established in 1990. It currently operates a Food Bank, Soup Kitchen, four Thrift Shop locations, and offers a range of other community services in the Parksville & Qualicum Beach region of mid-Vancouver Island. Our Food Bank serves 300+ families each month. Our Soup Kitchen offers a hot meal 4 days / week, and serves +125 people / day. Local schools receive a box of food from us each week to help fill the lunches of students in need. We distribute grocery vouchers to pregnant and nursing mothers through the local health unit. We facilitate an ID replacement program and pro-bono legal consultations. We average ~150 active volunteers each month working the hours equivalent to 13 full time staff (with more in Nov & Dec). Our volunteer program provides does more than just find workers to help with our other ministries: it is a ministry unto itself. We place volunteers that need to do community service as part of a restorative or community justice program or as part of a probation agreement; help volunteers with disabilities and special needs contribute in a meaningful way; and have worked with (and hope to do a great deal more!) local schools and post-secondary institutions to provide volunteering opportunities for youth and for students that need to complete practicum assignments. Most importantly, our volunteering program allows members of our community to express their compassion and love for others human beings by sharing their most precious resource: their time and their heart.
