Description
Metropolitan Community Services (MCS) is a Minnesota nonprofit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, representing the communities it serves. Founded in 2013, MCS was created to support the needs of high-risk, special needs, and underserved individuals with disabilities in Minnesota. MCS specifically serves the seven county Metro region. MCS’ largest client base are individuals of Eastern European descent; most of whom immigrated from former Soviet countries and speak Russian as their primary language. In 2014, MCS received the designation of Essential Community Provider (ECP) by the Minnesota Department of Health. As an ECP, MCS is required to provide or coordinate supportive and stabilizing services, such as transportation, childcare, linguistic services, and culturally sensitive and competent services to its clients; and have processes for identifying a need for supportive and stabilizing services and for enabling clients to access these services. Further, MCS must also provide unrestricted access to its services regardless of a client’s financial limitations and charge for its services on a sliding fee schedule based on income.
