The Action Ministries' Smart Lunch Smart Kid program has been feeding children in Georgia since the summer of 2012. Our state has more than 1 million children who are eligible for free or reduced-priced lunch during the school year. Many of those students lose access to this crucial meal during the summer when school is no longer in session. According to USA Today, this means that 28 percent of Georgia's children are considered food insecure.

Our program mission is to empower communities to remove the obstacles of poverty so children can succeed in school. We do this by alleviating hunger and empowering children with educational enrichment that helps them read and succeed on grade level.

As a volunteer with this program, you will be tasked with distributing pre-prepared meals to children within the Athens area. Once the children have been fed, you will lead enrichment activities that can range from physical activity to reading skill development.
