Mission Statement
International Friends is dedicated to assisting International Students develop quality friendships with at least one American family/individual. MSU's 3 pillars of public affairs: ethical leadership, cultural competence, and community engagement, fits with goals of International Friends Program (IFP). IFP matches international students for 1 semester (3-4 mos.) with host/family. This friendship develops into lifetime of friendship that extends beyond cultures and communities.
Description
International students have left friends/family/support system to come to study (in a second language). They enjoy building a friendship with someone from US to visit with once or every other week, or once a month to share dinner, and simply to enjoy time together. These students are eager to get to know you and share cultures. Consider if you had a son/daughter, niece/nephew, or anyone in your family/life that were to travel to a new country, wouldn't it be nice to know that someone was there for there to help them adjust and learn about that new culture?
A host may be someone single, a couple (with or without children), and of any economic demographics. The students remain living on campus and there is no financial responsibility to hosts/families. All a host needs is an open heart. It's the least investment one can make with the greatest rewards!
