Wounded Veteran Run is inspired by the daily perseverance and dedication of our nations combat wounded service members. Our goal is to raise awareness and donations for veteran supporting nonprofits and implement programs to support and thank veterans within our community.
Starting in 2011, Wounded Veteran Run was created by a local personal trainer as a way to promote physical fitness while simultaneously paying honor to her brother who was severely injured while serving in Afghanistan on 14 July 2010. While spending time with her brother at Walter Reed Hospital she came in contact with many other wounded veterans and wanted to find a way to help support all of our injured troops. An annual 10K, 5K, and 3K running/walking event on Memorial Day seemed like the perfect solution.
Since then WVR has grown to create and implement its own programs to help veterans in the community. These programs include, Holiday Cheer, Boots to Suits, WVR Cares, and aid for Student Veterans.
