Mission Statement

The Grand Comics Database (GCD) is a nonprofit, Internet-based organization of international volunteers dedicated to the collection, preservation, and dissemination of information about all printed comics throughout the world. Its primary objective is to build a publicly accessible database using the latest technology available in order to document the medium of printed comics wherever they may be published. The GCD may also pursue other activities that relate to the general purpose described above.

Description

The GCD was started in 1994 by Bob Klein and Tim Stroup. as an offshoot of the Amateur Press Association for Indexing (APA-I) mailing group. The GCD data was originally exchanged on computer disks before Jon Løvstad of Norway created the first GCD website which has been last updated in October 2009. The GCD is now looking modernize their online presence and to provide access to its growing database to mobile users.
