Mission Statement

Ho'omana assists the emotionally, mentally, physically challenged and those with disabilities with every opportunity to reach their maximum potential. Ho'omana is derived from the Hawaiian word: ~ Ho'o-Causive prefix (one that produces a result. ~ Mana-Authority, power, might. "TOGETHER HO'OMANA MEANS TO PLACE IN AUTHORITY OR EMPOWER! One of the goals of Ho'omana is to help students and adults come to an understanding and awareness of how they are seeing themselves through other people's eyes. It is nearly impossible to discern what others actually think of you. The major problem with letting others define you is that it limits your ability to be who you really are. It may not be easy to have the confidence needed to see yourself from your own perspective instead of how others view you, but Ho'omana is here to help. Building confidence, that's the magic that Ho'omana brings to peoples lives.

Description

Ho'omana's primary focus is using the Thrift Store as a "training site" for individuals in job-transferable skills that can be applied to future employment, life skills, financial literacy, and personal growth and development.

Ho'omana teaches a Financial Literacy curriculum designed to teach students how to manage their money and make informed financial decisions.

Adapted from the Kahua Waiwai curriculum created by Hawai'i Community Assests, this program uses group activities to teach basic money management skills.

The result is that the students increase their financial knowledge, gain positive attitudes, self-motivation and the ability to become independent.
