United Way California Capital Region (UWCCR) is partnering with BookNook to provide dual in-person and virtual literacy tutoring to students in need of support. The Literacy Tutoring program is made up of passionate volunteers who are dedicated to helping children become great readers. Working collaboratively with community organizations such as housing developments and local schools, you can change the course of a child's life by sharing your wisdom and experience. Our goal is to improve children's literacy, strengthen our communities, and provide additional mentors into the homes of families in need. UWCCRs Literacy Tutoring program is proven to help children who aren’t reading at grade level gain an average of 1.5 reading levels by the end of the school year. We inspire and empower volunteers to help students and disrupt the cycle of poverty by making a lasting difference in the lives of Kindergarten-6th grade students.
