Mission Statement

New York State Senator Monica R. Martinez remains committed to strengthening animal rights as the chairperson of the Domestic Animal Welfare Committee. Senator Martinez is also currently serves as the Assistant Majority Leader on Intergovernmental Affairs. The leadership team in the democratic conference represents the broader views and interests of all elected members and works together to determine the appropriate direction for the conference as a whole. She is a member of a number of committees, including the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus, Education, Insurance, Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs, Labor, Rules, and Budget and Revenues. Senator Martinez remains committed to her work in assisting constituents and implementing beneficial policies for all New York State residents.

Description

The New York State Senate is the upper house of the New York State Legislature. Its sixty-three members represent New York State and its more than 19 million citizens. The legislature’s primary purpose is to draft and approve changes to the laws of New York.

These changes are driven by complex public policy issues. To effectively represent the will of the people, senators must gain a deep understanding of those issues and how they impact New Yorkers.
