Mission Statement

The Marshall Chess Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation formed to promote, stimulate and encourage the study, play and appreciation of the game of chess! It is the Foundation's goal to stimulate the love of learning and studying by young people through educational programs and lectures. To foster the promotion of chess as an intellectual, social and cultural activity, the Foundation also runs age and skill-level appropriate competitions, as well as other tournaments designed to promote chess excellence by among members of the chess community. Where appropriate, the Foundation also supports the chess community through scholarships and direct financial support to those in need.

Description

The Marshall Chess Foundation has existed since 2008 as the charitable arm of the Marshall Chess Club. As stated above, our mission is to use chess as a means of empowerment for underserved communities in NYC and, perhaps eventually, beyond. The MCC is perhaps the most famous chess club in the world, and yet we have yet to realize our potential in leveraging our reputation to fulfill the Foundation's mission. We are most in need of legal guidance with regard to how best to position ourselves in order to begin fundraising efforts. Doing so will allow us to put into place initiatives that have been partially but not fully developed.
