Mission Statement
Winsted Area Child Care Center, Inc. (WACCC) is determined to provide the highest quality of care for our smallest community members in a safe, nurturing and educational environment. Our program is committed to meeting the social and emotional needs of each child. We will continuously empower parents to advocate for their children. Our hope is to strengthen the family bond by utilizing community resources to support the families of our Center.
Description
As a non-profit, nationally accredited, and state licensed childcare center, we serve children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. Each year we reach 200 families from Winsted, Torrington, and surrounding communities and we currently run three programs. Our main site includes an infant/toddler program which provides care for 32 children ages 6 weeks to 36 months. This site also provides a school readiness preschool for 80 children 3 to 5 years of age. The school readiness program focuses on academic achievement and kindergarten preparation. Our second site, BASE, provides care before and after school hours for up to 74 school age children ranging in age from 5 to 12 years. This program is also open during snow days, school vacations, and in the summer time we provide a fulltime summer camp.
We participate in a Child and Adult Care Food Program through the Connecticut State Department of Education, with the support of the United Way of Northwest Connecticut. Through this partnership, we are able to offer a well-balanced breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack at no additional cost to our families.
Our Center is the only one in our community to provide care for this wide range of age groups. We have built and fostered partnerships with many local agencies to provide referrals to families in need. We provide tuition assistance to parents in need via the Child Day Care Grant, School Readiness Grant, Care 4 Kids, and United Way tuition assistance.
