The #1 disaster Red Cross responds to is a house fire. Disaster Response Volunteers (Disaster Action Team) train and respond to local communities immediately after a disaster. They provide emergency disaster assistance & hope to individuals and families affected by the disaster. Respond to local disasters when activated. Work on-scene with family immediately following the disaster. When activated, ability to respond immediately, often in personal vehicle. Conduct intake interviews and issuing client assistance as appropriate, outlined in response guidelines. Provide disaster assistance as appropriate and outlined in the Response Guidelines. Work professionally with clients, first responders, and partner agencies. Perform duties in accordance with American Red Cross procedures and Red Cross Code of Conduct & Confidentiality policies. Attend regularly scheduled Disaster Cycle Services Volunteer meeting. Qualifications: Availability to respond at a variety of hours with own personal transportation. (Must have valid drivers license) Ability to respond to phone call in a timely manner. Strong empathy skills. Able to maintain confidentiality with client information. Open-mindedness and sensitivity to diversity. Enjoy work as a team member. Ability to follow instructions. Proficient computer & internet skills. Access to both required to complete duties. Use of a cell phone and cellular data will be needed in the field to complete intake interviews. Provide clear, objective, documentation for case file. Comfortable working in stressful situations. Flexibility is key to the success and function of this team. Able to handle multiple tasks and assess incoming information quickly. Ability to lift & carry 25 pounds.

The Disaster Action Team (DAT) Duty Officer ensures timely activation and monitoring of local and regional DAT responses. The Duty Officer supports the DAT program either at the chapter/territory or region level. Leadership Triages requests received to determine if Red Cross action is required; may decide if Red Cross will respond via DAT. Uses event triggers such as size, scope, and type of event to escalate the DAT response when necessary. Works with on-scene DAT leadership to support the response and provide technical guidance. May support and train new Duty Officers. Liaises necessary information to leadership and other stakeholders May be tasked with composing Initial Incident Reports (IIR) dependent upon regional processes Ensures response compliance in accordance with the DAT Standards and Procedures Maintains close working relationship with DAT Regional Program Lead, Chapter/Territory DAT Coordinators and Regional RC Respond Application Lead to ensure responders are identified and scheduled. Functional Documents incoming disaster notification and ensures their assignment as the Duty Officer in the call record in RC Respond. Manages all DAT calls and activities in RC Respond Identifies available DAT responders and dispatches team to ensure appropriate resourcing to meet client needs. Activates Disaster Health Services, Disaster Mental Health, Disaster Spiritual Care, and Public Affairs when requested. Maintains ongoing communication with all assigned responders and ensures timely updates are reflected in the RC Respond call record to reflect movement to a status of On Scene and Off Scene. May be required to monitor activity across multiple DAT responses. Monitors all active calls while assigned, moving them to a status of Closed upon completion in RC Respond. If an event has not concluded, provide necessary information upon shift change. Notifies Chapter and Regional staff of significant events, and contributes to an Initial Incident Report, when appropriate. Manages availability by registering for shifts in RC Respond. Attends regularly scheduled team/DAT meetings as required by Chapter/Region. Maintains RC Respond Duty Officer user access Qualifications: Reliable access to a computer, internet, and a phone. Comfortable using and learning new technology Commitment to use RC Care and RC Respond systems as needed Able to prioritize multiple tasks in complex, rapidly changing and stressful situations. Must be 18 years or older Strong written and verbal communications skills. The Recovery Services Client Care Program allows the Red Cross to rapidly meet disaster-caused needs by enabling clients to apply and receive financial assistance and/or community resources. The Client Care Program Service Associate supports the recovery of disaster affected individuals, households, and communities by providing referrals, advocacy, and financial assistance through RC Care (case management system). Conduct Intake by interviewing the client and opening a case in RC Care Provide Financial Assistance to qualified clients. Conduct Follow-up and Recovery Planning Services Provide Internal Referrals Provide Community Referrals Assist with problem-solving and advocacy on request Use RC Care to document services according to the Client Care Program Standards and Procedures Services may be provided in person or virtually. Provide excellent and enthusiastic customer service to enhance the blood donor experience. Engage with blood donors to promote blood donation and set the stage for a long-term commitment to regular blood donations. Express gratitude and ensure each blood donor is sincerely thanked for their donation. Preferred commitment: 1+ shift every 3 months for 6 months, renewable. Greet donors, explain the donation process as necessary and assist with initial intake and hand offs through the blood donation process Direct donor to next step of donation or options for future donations if deferred. Model excellent customer service behaviors. Ensure blood donors have relevant information and that questions are answered appropriately while creating a favorable impression of the blood donation process. Learn and share the Red Cross story, including the mission, vision, and values Provide customer service to donors in the Hospitality Area by ensuring that each donor is recognized for his/her contribution. Report possible adverse post-donation physical reactions to the collections staff.
