Mission Statement

Concrn is a Bay Area-based tech nonprofit that provides a compassionate alternative to 911 for people experiencing mental health crises in communities experiencing poverty. We aim to reduce the enormous resource burden on emergency services, hospitals, and aim to avoid police action while activating more compassion and humanity in our communities.

Description

We have been operating in parts of SF for the last three years. Our mobile app allows people to report a mental health crises they witness or are experiencing, after which we dispatch a trained compassionate peer responder to de-escalate and provide socio-emotional support through crisis intervention. Almost all of the people we respond to are experiencing homelessness or co-occurring substance abuse disorder. Our goal is to collaborate closely with system-wide stakeholders both on our tech platform and service delivery model who have aligned interests. We aim to reduce the enormous resource burden on emergency services, hospitals, and aim to avoid police action while activating more compassion and humanity in our communities. Some of our current supporters include Kaiser Permanente and we have an Innovation Lab residency at Kapor Center for Social Impact.
