This is a new program designed as a response to COVID19 to improve resilience and reduce stress for healthcare workers. We need service focused volunteers to staff the The Employee Well-Being Center, set up for staff members and volunteers to have a quiet, peaceful place to spend 15 minutes to relax and destress. Healthcare workers have some of the highest burn out rates of all career fields and our goal is to help the staff reduce anxiety, stress and return to their jobs refreshed. This enables them to provide the best patient care possible. The assistant manages the flow of employee appointments to the Well Being center room, completely cleans the massage chairs after each use, invites the staff or other volunteers to share comments or suggestions, provide any information on scheduling and use of the amenity cart. They also will clean the coffee maker after each use, using the sanitizing wipes and gloves provided. They will ensure everything is turned on and ready first thing in the morning and that everything is shut off at the end of the day. All special lighting, the aroma therapy diffusers are on and essential oils are added each morning, and coffee maker filled. Everything should be shut down and cleaned at the end of the day. They will also ask everyone to sign in, add comments and take only one item off the amenity cart when they are done. Volunteers have use of the room as well.

Many Veterans have a variety of home life situations. The Compassionate Contact Corps can make all the difference in the lives of Veterans really needing a friendly face or voice to greet them each week! Some have supportive family and friends with who they live with , or who live away. Some live alone with little support. Some have paid caregivers or home health aides. Veterans may live with others, live alone, in apartments or house, supported living, assisted living facilities, adult care homes or a medical foster home. We are looking for compassionate, friendly and patient Volunteers who are interested in visiting with Veterans virtually or on the phone to provide friendship, support and help combat social isolation and loneliness of those impacted by COVID19. These Veterans have been referred to this program by their healthcare providers or social workers as an identified need. The Volunteers will: ¨ Provide companionship ¨ Socialize virtually with a Veteran ¨ Generally 1-2 times a week for 15-60 minutes ¨ Schedule is based on the Caregiver/ Veteran’s need and the volunteer’s availability This opportunity is one that requires the Volunteer to be consistent in visiting weekly at least once a week at a minimum. Volunteer hours must be emailed to Voluntary Service every two weeks since the Volunteer will be virtual and not signing in at the Voluntary Office.

Be courteous and professional at all times Introduce yourself and identify yourself as a volunteer Be respectful of all Veterans and guests at all times and address them appropriately Smile and be wiling to offer assistance rather than wait to be asked Assist patients with directions to a clinic, escort them to the clinic and provide wheel chair transport and pick up if needed. Respond to phone calls and in person questions politely and be sure to find out the correct department or location the first time. No one wants to be sent multiple places. You will likely be the patient's first contact with our hospital so what you do and say makes all the difference in the world and can determine how the rest of their day will go. It's also important to arrive on time, call out ahead if you cannot make it, and stick as closely as possible to the schedule given to you when you become an Ambassador.
